BEN WAPLES - double bass / electric bass.

Born 1981 in Burrawang NSW into a family of musicians, Ben has rapidly become recognised as being among the elite of Australia’s young musicians. Moving to Sydney in 2000 to begin his study at Sydney Conservatorium’s Jazz Course, Ben was soon performing alongside some of Australia’s key Jazz musicians including Judy Bailey, Bernie McGann, John Pochee, Dale Barlow, Vince Jones, Mark Isaacs among many others.

2nd place-getter at the 2008 Wangaratta National Jazz Awards, Ben already has several extensive international tours to his credit and appears on many CDs, including 3 with rising star, Japanese/Korean pianist Hakuei Kim’s Trio ( OPEN THE GREEN DOOR, HOME BEYOND THE CLOUD, SHADOW OF TIME ) 3 widely acclaimed CDs with the experimental electronic Jazz trio TRIOSK
( 1+3+1, MOMENT RETURNS, THE HEADLIGHT SERENADE )
plus many others with top local players.

A bassist who is constantly in demand, equally at home in a virtuoso acoustic format or cutting edge electronica, Ben Waples is an outstanding example of the kind of genre-bending creative talents currently emerging on today’s music scene.
