National Jazz Writing Competition
Just one month to competition deadline!
To be eligible for this year's $750 first prize or a second prize of a Birdland Records Jazz CD pack to the value of $300, entrants need to be sharpening their pencils! The deadline for the 2007 National Jazz Writing Competition is looming on 17 September.

Once again, the competition asks entrants to submit three reviews of Australian jazz: two CD reviews and a review of a gig. Submission details are available on the web at www.jazz-planet.com/njwc

The judges for 2007 represent the spectrum of Australian jazz expertise from education, performance, composition, writing and broadcasting; they have been invited onto the judging panel because each is recognised as being outstanding in his respective field.

Melbourne-based drummer and bandleader Allan Browne is a judge in the competition for the third year—he’s been with us since the beginning and once again brings his considerable knowledge and experience tempered with an eye for the intangible aesthetic that is such a feature of an outstanding review. Joining him this year are Andrew Ford, composer, writer and broadcaster, familiar to listeners of ABC Radio National’s The Music Show, and Sydney-based pianist, composer, band leader and broadcaster Matt McMahon, who also won the National Jazz Competition at Wangaratta in 1999.

The National Jazz Writing Competition is open to entrants from all over the country and reviews must be of Australian jazz CDs and Australian jazz gigs. Entries close on 17 September, and entrants can submit as many entries as they wish. Submission details are available on the web at www.jazz-planet.com/njwc or contact Miriam by email, phone or post for printed copies.
