Submission Guidelines 2008

Submit a short story with a maximum of 2,000 words. The story must be about, inspired by or responding to jazz or improvised music.

Note: Where the reference to jazz is not explicit in the story you will also need to supply a brief (200 words maximum) explanation of the link. For example, if a story was inspired by the music at a gig or on a recording, name the musician(s) and give details of date and venue or CD.

An administration fee of $5.00 should accompany each entry. The fee should be a cheque or money order and made out to Jazz Planet. Do not send cash.

You can enter more than once.

Entries must not be published anywhere until after the prize has been announced and the winning story published.

The competition is open to: Australian Residents who are not judges of the competition in the year of entry.

Submit your entry by 30 June 2008. If posting, the envelope must be postmarked on or before 30 June. If emailing, the email must be sent no later than midnight on 30 June 2008, Eastern Australian time.

Stories should be typed in 12 point font and double spaced.

Do not include your name on the story. Submit a separate sheet with your details.

Check spelling and grammar. Poorly written submissions will be eliminated in the first round and will not make it to the short list!

First prize is $750. Other prizes (value to be confirmed) will also be awarded for second and third places.

Entries will not be returned. Please keep a copy for your own records.

The decision of the judge(s) is final. No discussion.

Any entry that does not meet the criteria set out in the submission guidelines will be ineligible.
